dc.description.abstract The main features of the motivation for pupils obtaining both lower and upper secondary education pupils of 8-10 grades – are described in this article. The interrelation between the effectiveness of the pupils’ educational activities and changes in the structure of the main motives has been studied as well. Types of motives are highlighted in accordance with the methodologies. Recommendations for optimizing the educational process with taking into account the peculiarities of the leading activities, current motives and social requirements for the lower and upper secondary schools are highlighted. Creation of conditions for increasing academic motivation, updating educational activities in adolescents, which is based on knowledge of the characteristics of the motivational sphere with taking into account the tendency of changes in the positions of individual motives and the primer on the basic values of schoolchildren, has been determined en_US
